01About these terms
These terms are between you and the PauseForward practice of Dr Cecilia Akinloye. Where I mention "I", "me" or "the practice", I mean the PauseForward practice. Where I mention "the website", I mean this site and its pages, articles and resources.
Separate arrangements apply once you become a patient. Your telehealth consultations, clinical records and any consent you give as a patient are governed by the professional and legal obligations I owe you as your treating doctor, and by my Privacy Policy. These website terms do not reduce those obligations.
02Information here is general, not personal advice
The articles, notes and resources on this website are provided for general education and information only. They describe perimenopause and menopause in broad terms so that you can understand your options and have a more informed conversation with a doctor who knows you.
This general information is not personal medical advice. It is not tailored to your history, your symptoms, your medications or your circumstances, and it cannot take the place of a consultation with a qualified health professional who can assess you individually. You should not start, stop or change any treatment, medication or dose based on anything you read here without speaking to your own doctor.
Please always check with your own doctor. Every person is different. What is right for one person may not be right for you. If you are unsure about anything you read here, raise it with a health professional before acting on it.
03No doctor-patient relationship from the website
Reading this website, sending an enquiry, or subscribing to updates does not create a doctor-patient relationship between us and does not make you my patient. A doctor-patient relationship begins only when you book and attend a consultation with me and I agree to take you into my care.
Until that point, I cannot and do not give you individual medical advice, diagnose you, or prescribe for you through this website. Any general response to a website enquiry is not a consultation and should not be relied on as personal medical advice.
04Emergencies and urgent care
Telehealth is not suitable for medical emergencies. This website and my telehealth service are not monitored around the clock and cannot help you in an emergency.
If you have a medical emergency, call 000 immediately or go to your nearest emergency department. If you are in distress or thinking about harming yourself, call 000, or Lifeline on 13 11 14, at any time.
05The care I provide
I provide telehealth consultations to adults across Australia, with a focus on perimenopause and menopause. Consultations are delivered by secure video in association with Arami Women's Health in East Melbourne.
Medicine involves professional judgement, and outcomes can never be guaranteed. I will always give you my honest, evidence-based opinion and exercise reasonable care and skill, but I cannot promise a particular result, that a treatment will suit you, or that symptoms will resolve. Telehealth also has practical limits: without a physical examination, some conditions cannot be assessed remotely, and I may recommend that you see a doctor in person or attend for tests when that is the safer course. If a matter falls outside what can be safely managed by telehealth, I will tell you and help you find appropriate care.
06Bookings, fees and cancellations
Appointments are booked through my online booking system. Fees, any applicable Medicare rebates, and the cancellation and rescheduling policy are shown to you at the time of booking. Please read them before you confirm.
If you need to change or cancel an appointment, please give as much notice as you can. A fee may apply for appointments cancelled at short notice or missed without notice, as set out in the booking policy that applied when you booked. Rebates and eligibility for Medicare are determined by the rules that apply at the time of your consultation and are outside my control.
07Who these services are for
My telehealth services are intended for people aged 18 and over who are physically located in Australia at the time of their consultation. By booking, you confirm that this applies to you and that the information you give me is true and complete to the best of your knowledge. Accurate information helps me care for you safely.
08How you agree to use the website
You agree to use this website lawfully and respectfully. In particular, you agree not to:
- use the website in a way that breaks any law, or that could damage, disable or overload it;
- copy, republish or commercially reuse its content except as allowed in section 10;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the website or its systems; or
- use the website to send unlawful, misleading, harmful or offensive material.
09Third-party links and tools
This website may link to, or rely on, services provided by others, such as my booking provider, payment processor and reputable health information sources. I include links because I believe they may be helpful, but I do not control those services and I am not responsible for their content, accuracy or practices. Your use of a third-party service is governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy.
10Intellectual property
The content of this website, including the articles, wording, design, logo and the PauseForward name, belongs to me or is used with permission. You may read it and share links to it, and you may keep a personal copy of an article for your own non-commercial use. You may not reproduce, adapt or publish it for any commercial purpose, or present it as your own, without my written permission.
11Accuracy and availability
I take care to keep the information on this website accurate and current, and to reflect good clinical evidence. Even so, medical knowledge changes, and I cannot guarantee that everything here is complete, current or free of error at all times. Content may be updated or removed without notice.
I also cannot guarantee that the website will always be available or uninterrupted. From time to time it may be unavailable for maintenance or for reasons beyond my control.
12Your rights and my responsibility
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that cannot lawfully be excluded, including the consumer guarantees that services will be provided with due care and skill. I do not seek to exclude or limit any right or remedy that the law does not allow me to exclude or limit, and nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury to the extent that the law does not permit.
Subject to that, and to the fullest extent the law allows:
- the general information on this website is provided without warranties of any kind, and you rely on it at your own risk as general information rather than personal advice;
- I am not responsible for any loss or harm that results from you relying on the general website content instead of obtaining personal advice from a doctor who knows your history; and
- I am not responsible for loss caused by third-party services, by matters beyond my reasonable control, or by your misuse of the website.
These limits apply to the website and its general content. They do not reduce the duty of care I owe you as your treating doctor once you are my patient.
13Privacy
I handle your personal and health information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. My Privacy Policy explains what I collect, why, how I keep it safe, and how you can access or correct it. By using this website you acknowledge that policy.
14Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in my services or in the law. The current version will always be posted on this page with the date it was last updated. Continuing to use the website after a change means you accept the updated terms.
15Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the Commonwealth of Australia. Any dispute relating to the website or these terms is subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.
16How to contact me
